Service and Repair Manual September 2015Secondary Boom Components40 Z-30/20N • Z-30/20N RJ • Z-34/22 • Z-34/22N Part No. 12684985-2 Secondary Boom Lift Cyli nders5-2Secondary Boom Lift CylinderThe secondary boom lift cylinder raises and lowersthe secondary boom. The secondary boom liftcylinder is equipped with counterbalance valves toprevent movement in the event of a hydraulic linefailure. How to Remove the SecondaryBoom Lift CylinderBodily injury hazard. Thisprocedure requires specific repairskills, lifting equipment and asuitable workshop. Attemptingthis procedure without theseskills and tools could result indeath or serious injury andsignificant component damage.Dealer service is stronglyrecommended.Note: When removing a hose assembly or fitting, the O-ring (if equipped) on the fitting and/or hoseend must be replaced. All connections must betorqued to specification during installation. Refer toSpecifications, Hydraulic Hose and Fitting TorqueSpecifications.1 Rotate the turntable to either side until theboom is centered between the steer andnon-steer tires.2 Raise the primary boom to full height. Do notextend it.3 Swing out the battery pack that is directlybelow the secondary boom lift cylinder.4 Disconnect the battery packs from themachine.5 Open the hydraulic tank side turntable cover.6 Tag and disconnect the power cables on theauxiliary power unit.Electrocution/burn hazard.Contact with electrically chargedcircuits could result in death orserious injury. Remove all rings, watches and other jewelry.7 Close the hydraulic tank shutoff valve. Tagand disconnect and plug the hydraulic hosefrom the hydraulic tank shutoff valve.Bodily injury hazard. Sprayinghydraulic oil can penetrate andburn skin. Loosen hydraulicconnections very slowly to allowthe oil pressure to dissipategradually. Do not allow oil tosquirt or spray.8 Open the valve on the hydraulic tank anddrain the oil into a container of suitablecapacity. Refer to Specifications., MachineSpecifications.Bodily injury hazard. Beware ofhot oil. Contact with hot oil maycause severe burns.
