Outside Air AttachmentOutside Air Kit #1-00-774280 (sold separately) mustbe used for attaching outside air to the insert. This kitcontains a 3" stub and gasket to mount to the frame,and the outside air adapter which secures to the insertbody. The outside air intake connection will seal to themounting frame, just like the exhaust does. Follow theinstructions included in the kit to ensure proper instal-lation.1. Make a determination of where you want to drawthe outside air from. Here are a few options.a. Punch a hole through the rear of thefireplace and exterior wall. Rigid pipe or flexpipe could be used.b. Use the chimney or chase as a conduit foroutside air. The exhaust liner must be runthe full length of the flue. When creatingyour steel plate to seal the damper area,Make another 3 inch hole for the outside airpipe. Install a short run of pipe from themounting frame through the sealing plate.Then install the chimney top extension kit,item #1-00-674104 at the top of the chimney.This is slotted to allow fresh air into thechimney or chase.2. Secure the outside air supply pipe to the stub onthe mounting frame using a minimum of two fas-teners.3. If running the supply pipe direct, install the outsideair cover weldment #1-10-09542 to keep birds orrodents from entering the supply pipe.4. Keep the intake a minimum of 4 feet (1.2 m) belowthe exhaust termination.CAUTION!Never draw outside combustion air from:• Wall, floor or ceiling cavity.• Enclosed space such as an attic or garageThe image at left shows the use of the chim-ney for outside air supply. Also shown is theChimney intake extension on the top of thechimney. It is slotted to allow fresh air intothe flue. Be sure to use the proper flashingand vent cap to prevent rain from entering thechimney flue.The image below demonstrates bringing theoutside air in through a hole cut through therear of the fireplace and external wall.
