Burn Pot Grate Cleaning• Frequency: Daily to Weekly *• By: UserWear Leather Gloves To Prevent Skin Burns!This procedure can be done with a fire burning. It isrecommended that you turn the temperature dial downapproximately one half hour before to allow somecooling of the fire.Open the front door by lifting upward on the latchhandle, then swing the door open. Using the scrapertool provided with your appliance, scrape anycool or spent ashes from in front of the fire offthe front of the grate to the ash pan. Next,scrape downward into the burn pot,under the burning fuel to remove anycarbon deposits. Pay particularattention to the corners on eachside of the auger, as this isgenerally the first place tosee accumulation. You donot want to scrape the fireout of the pot, you justwant to clean the holedsurface underneath thefire. Any loosened mate-rial will be pushed off ofthe grate into the ashpan as burning resumes. Close the door when fin-ished, and return your temperature dial to the desiredsetting.* Depending on fuel quality and the quantity of fuelconsumed, the interval between scraping will vary. Ifyou see orange and lazy flames, it is a good indicatorof the need for scraping.2. Ash Removal From Firebox• Frequency: Weekly / depending on fuel and/orash buildup.• By: UserWear Gloves To PerformThe fire MUST be out and cool for safe ash removal.The scraper tool can be used to knock any ash accu-mulation into the ash pan.Frequent cleaning of ash from the firebox will help toslow the accumulation of ash in the exhaust and vent-ing system.3. Emptying the Ash Pan• Frequency: Bi-Weekly / as needed• By: UserWear Gloves To PerformThe fire MUST be out and cool for safe ash removal.a. Remove the ash pan cover by grasping the ash lipand slide forward.b. Open the lower spring latch on each side to releasethe ash pan.c. Slide the ash pan straight out.d. Empty into anon-combustiblecontainer andslide the ash panstraight into thestove.e. Secure the ashpan by hookingand closing thespring latches.4. Disposal of Ashes• Frequency: As needed• By: UserAshes must be placed in a metal container witha tight fitting lid. The closed container of ashesshould be placed on a non-combustible floor oron the ground, well away from all combustiblematerials, pending final disposal. If the ashes aredisposed of by burial in soil or otherwise locallydispersed, they should be retained in the closedcontainer until all cinders have thoroughly cooled.Do not use the ash container for other debris oryard waste.C.
