3 BASIC OPERATION13What are tuning steps?Tuning steps are the frequency changeincrements when you rotate the tuningcontrol or operate a scan. The followingsteps are available: 0.1, 0.5, 1, 5, 6.25,8, 9, 10, 12.5, 15, 20, 25, 30, 50, 100kHz and user programmable tuningsteps (p. 66).It is important to set the proper tuningstep for the type of station you want tolisten to. Some tuning steps are deter-mined by frequency band or receivemode and others are set by tradition.Generally speaking, if you set a tuningstep smaller than that needed you willstill be able to tune a station you want(or scan it), however, tuning (or scan-ning) will not be efficient. On the otherhand, if you select a tuning step whichis too large, you may not be able to findthe station you are looking for.Consult local listings.1.
