455.5.3 Measuring theMotor ResistanceFor best performance the resistance of the induction motor should bemeasured by the drive. Use the following steps to complete themeasurement for induction motors.1) Remove one brake wire from the controller, preventing it from picking2) Verify LF.3 is set to “conF”3) Go to LF.18 and press function. The display should read Auto4) Press the up key such that the display shows “50.000”5) Press and hold inspection up. The motor contactor should pull in andthe brake should not pick.6) Press enter on the drive keypad. The drive will begin to measure themotor resistance. DO NOT release the inspection switch during thisprocess. Otherwise the measurement will be unsuccessful and will needto be done again. The measurement will take between 5 and 10 secondsduring which the display will show ChEc.7) When the display changes from ChEc to another value, i.e. 0.345 orthe display shows E.Cdd the inspection switch can be released. If the display indicated a new value, then the measurement is complete.Set LF.3 = run. If the result was E.Cdd there was a problem gettingconsistent readings. Try the measurement again from step 3. Make sureto hold the inspection switch such that the motor contactor remains pickedwhile the test is being done.If after several tries if was not possible to get a successful value you cantry to measure it with a DVM (digital volt meter) Measure phase to phaseacross all combinations. Enter the average value of the measurementinto LF.18. Note: find the zero value by placing the probes together. If thedisplay reads a value other than zero, subtract this value from themeasured resistance value of the motor.Don’t forget to set LF.3 to run! The motor will not run in conF mode!Initial Start Up
