6-4. IN CASE OF DIFFICULTYThe problems described in this table are failurescaused in general by improper operation or connec-RECEPTIONtion of the transceiver, not by defective com-ponents. Examine and check according to thefollowing table. If the problem persists, contact anauthorized agent or service station.Symptom Probable cause Corrective actionIndicators do not light and no receivernoise is heard when the POWER switchis turned on.1. Bad power cable or connections.2. Blown power supply fuse.3. Power supply is OFF.1. Check cables and connections.2. Check for the cause of the blownfuse and replace the fuse.Nothing is displayed or wrong digits aredisplayed when the POWER switch isturned on.The microprocessor may malfunctionif the input voltage is too low.1. Use a step-up transformer to raisethe line voltage.Use a 12 V to 16 V battery.2. Turn on the POWER switch whiledepressing the A=B (or A/B) key,and then release the A=B (or A/B)key.When you press the POWER switch,“'14 MHz USB”’ is displayed ...or thereceive sensitivity is low.The backup battery voltage is low. Please refer to Section 4-4-1.No signal is received even when theantenna is connected or the receivingsensitivity is low.1. SQL control fully clockwise.2. The ATT switch is ON.3. The standby switch is in the SENDposition.4. Microphone PTT switch is in thetransmit position.5. No optional CW filter is installedand the mode switch is in the CWNposition.1. Turn the SQL controlclockwise.2. Set the ATT switch off.3. Set standby switch to REC.counter-4. Set the PTT switch to the receiveposition.5. Select a different mode.An antenna is connected, but no signalis received and the S-meter fullydeflects.RF GAIN control is too low, decreasingthe high frequency circuit gain.Turn the RF GAIN control MAX posi-tion.The S-meter deflects and stays at a cer-tain position even with no signal.1. Low AC line voltage.2. RF GAIN control closed.1. Use a step-up transformer to raisethe line voltage.Use a 12 V to 16 V battery.2. Turn the RF GAIN control MAXposition.Signal is received, but no sound isheard.MODE key position is incorrect. Change the MODE key to the correctmode.SSB received signal is extremely highcut or low cut.IF SHIFT control is wrong adjusted. Set the control to the center (clickposition).Frequency is not changed by pressingthe UP/DOWN switches, turning theTUNING knob, or M.CH/VFO CH con-trol.F.LOCK key is ON. Set F.LOCK key to OFF.Memory scan fails. Nothing is stored in memory.Display goes out with VFO/M ON. When nothing is stored in the memorychannel, a channel is displayed andblanked with only the decimal pointdisplayed.Store the frequency.Note:A heterodynesignalmaybe heardat oraround 4.5MHzand 12.89 MHz.Thisisduetotheinternalfrequencyconfigurationof the radioandisnot an indication ofany problem.Itisnormal.32
