16 ENGLISHOPERATIONNOTICE:• Before use, be sure to release the handle from thelowered position by pulling the stopper pin.• Do not apply excessive pressure on the handlewhen cutting. Too much force may result in over-load of the motor and/or decreased cutting effi-ciency. Push down handle with only as much forceas is necessary for smooth cutting and withoutsignificant decrease in blade speed.• Gently press down the handle to perform the cut. If the han-dle is pressed down with force or if lateral force is applied, the blade will vibrate and leave a mark (saw mark) in theworkpiece and the precision of the cut will be impaired.• During a slide cut, gently push the carriage toward theguide fence without stopping. If the carriage movementis stopped during the cut, a mark will be left in the work-piece and the precision of the cut will be impaired.WARNING:• Make sure the blade is not contacting theworkpiece, etc. before the switch is turned on.Turning the tool on with the blade in contact withthe workpiece may result in kickback and seri-ous personal injury.Press cutting (cutting small workpieces)12► 1. Thumb screw 2. Holder assemblyWorkpieces up to 52 mm (2-1/16") high and 97 mm(3-13/16") wide can be cut in the following manner.Push the carriage toward the guide fence fully and tighten twoclamp screws which secure the slide poles clockwise to securethe carriage. Secure the workpiece with the proper type ofvise. Switch on the tool without the blade making any contactand wait until the blade attains full speed before lowering. Then gently lower the handle to the fully lowered position to cutthe workpiece. When the cut is completed, switch off the tooland WAIT UNTIL THE BLADE HAS COME TO A COMPLETESTOP before returning the blade to its fully elevated position.WARNING:• Firmly tighten two clamping screws whichsecure the slide poles clockwise so that thecarriage will not move during operation.Insufficient tightening of the locking screw maycause possible kickback which may result inserious personal injury.Slide (push) cutting (cutting wideworkpieces)12► 1. Thumb screw 2. Holder assemblyLoosen two clamp screws which secure the slide polescounterclockwise so that the carriage can slide freely.Secure the workpiece with the proper type of vise. Pullthe carriage toward you fully. Switch on the tool withoutthe blade making any contact and wait until the bladeattains full speed. Press the handle down and PUSHTHE CARRIAGE TOWARD THE GUIDE FENCE ANDTHROUGH THE WORKPIECE. When the cut is com-pleted, switch off the tool and WAIT UNTIL THE BLADEHAS COME TO A COMPLETE STOP before returningthe blade to its fully elevated position.WARNING:• Whenever performing a slide cut, first pullthe carriage full towards you and press thehandle all the way down, then push the car-riage toward the guide fence. Never start thecut with the carriage not pulled fully towardyou. If you perform the slide cut without thecarriage pulled fully toward you unexpectedkickback may occur and serious personal injurymay result.• Never attempt to perform a slide cut bypulling the carriage towards you. Pulling thecarriage towards you while cutting may causeunexpected kickback resulting in possible seri-ous personal injury.• Never perform the slide cut with the handlelocked in the lowered position.• Never loosen the knob which secures thecarriage while the blade is rotating. A loosecarriage while cutting may cause unexpectedkickback resulting in possible in serious per-sonal injury.Miter cuttingRefer to the previously covered "Adjusting the miterangle".
