317Neoware Image Manager User ManualAPPENDIX D DHCP ReferenceThis appendix describes how clients locate the Neoware ImageManager server, and the DHCP options used.How Clients Locate the Image Manager ServerAt boot time, the Client station executes the mPXELdr code tolocate an Image Manager Server to boot from. There are two waysto configure the server(s) that mPXELdr will attempt to contact.One is using the mPXELdr configuration file (described in thechapter “The mPXELdr Configuration File” on page 251). Theother method involves a specific configuration option in the DHCPserver, which is described in this appendix. Both methods are verysimilar and are designed to complement each other. To providemaximum configuration flexibility, refer also to the chapter “ThemPXELdr Configuration File” on page 251.The Neoware Image Manager server IP address and port numbercan be sent to a client by the DHCP server using DHCP option#132. This option must contain a comma-separated character stringof IP addresses of servers to contact - optionally followed by asemicolon and a port number. If no port number is specified, thedefault NVDD port UDP 2184 will be used. It should be noted thatthe syntax of this option is strictly identical to that of the NVDServ-ers option in the mPXELdr configuration file.If an IP address that the client tries to contact is not running aNeoware Image Manager Server module on a corresponding port,or if the server running on that address and port cannot serve any
