Troubleshooting372 Recommended Network ConfigurationRecommended Network ConfigurationThe following network configuration recommendations should helpyou to achieve better performances and avoid congestion.• Never use uplinked Ethernet switches.• Use good quality Ethernet controllers on the server and theclients.• You can use teamed network adapters on the server to increaseserver network bandwidth.• Use fast HDs on the server. The fastest the server HDs, the betterperformances.• If your server disk controller is a RAID controller, it is recom-mended that you use RAID1 instead of RAID5.• Use HDs with large internal disk cache (buffers) on the server.• Use a large amount of RAM on the server and maximize diskcaching on the server.• Use good quality Ethernet switches that can be configured tosupport flow control and that have enough buffers to hold largeamount of data between 1000BT and 100BT networks.• Have enough RAM in the client (256MB or more).• Limit the client virtual memory size or disable virtual memory onthe clients.• Use CVolwrite/Volatile mode for virtual HDs.• Configure Windows on the client PCs to limit writes on the sys-tem drive (C:) as much as possible. A RamDisk can be useful forsuch purposes. Write Filters on Windows XP Embedded may beused.• Limit the writes on Virtual HDs (use My Documents folder redi-rection, store the users e-mail folders on another server etc. andlimit the user profiles sizes).
