This provisioning helps duringupgrade in case an existing voice-mail server has a Universal Resource Identifier(URI) provisioned, which translates to a voice-mail server instead of the actualserver information. Consequently, you can use the existing URI or provision anode to add a voice-mail server host.To provision a host for voice-mail servers1 Select Voice Mail > Add VMS Host.The Add Voicemail Server Host window appears.Voice-mail server type DescriptionSIP-based An IP-based voice-mail server that uses the SIPprotocol. This server type does not need a PSTNgateway.Trunk-based A legacy PSTN-based voice-mail server that uses aPrimary Rate Interface (PRI) or Channel AssociatedSignaling (CAS) gateway. The Session Manager usesSMDI to send call setup information using a Call DetailMessage to get Message Waiting Indication (MWI)information from the voice-mail server.Line-based A voice-mail server with multiple lines, each identified bya 10-digit phone number that goes into the voice-mailserver. When people leave messages, the individuallines are used in a round robin manner to connect to thevoice-mail server. The Session Manager sends an SMDImessage to the voice-mail server to help establish theconnection to the Session Manager that uses SMDI toobtain Message Waiting Indication (MWI) informationfrom the voice-mail server.
