491Networking Configuration GuideChapter 67DHCP configuration with routerIf you have a BCM with an embedded router (BCM50a or BCM50e), the BCM requests its IPconfiguration from the router. By default, the IP address of the integrated router is 192.168.1.1. Bydefault it always reserves 192.168.1.2 for the BCM LAN. If the IP address of the router ischanged, the IP address of the BCM LAN also changes.Changing the default router DHCP configurationThe DHCP Server also supplies the Nortel specific information that are required by IP sets. Thisinformation includes TPS server information and VLAN ids. If the S1 and S2 IP addresses are leftas their default, they will automatically be updated when the router’s IP address is changed. If theS1 and S2 addresses have been entered manually, they will not be automatically updated when therouter’s IP address is changed.Configuring the BCM with a DHCP addressTo configure the BCM with a DHCP address1 Set up your DHCP server, if it is not already configured on your network. If you are using aBCM with a router, consult the router documentation for information on configuring theDHCP network.2 Connect the BCM to the network. By default, the BCM will detect the presence of a DHCPserver, and set itself up as a client of this DHCP server.Configuring the BCM to act as a DHCP serverThe BCM needs to act as a DHCP server only if there is no integrated router. By default, the BCMwill attempt to detect the presence of another DHCP server, and determine whether it needs tooffer DHCP services. To configure the BCM DHCP component1 Determine the status of the DHCP server. In most scenarios, you can leave it as automatic.2 Configure the IP address range and DNS information.3 Configure the proxy server settings.
