Going beyond the basics265Backing up mail databasesIn most cases your e-mail is on your server, so you do not need to back up youre-mail database from your handheld. If you want to make sure you have a currentcopy of all your e-mail, you can back up all the e-mail databases from thehandheld.To back up the e-mail database:1. Press Command + R.Alternately, press Function + Menu , select Options, and then selectPreferences.2. Tap System.3. Tap Backup ALL Databases to select it.NOTE If you don’t select this option, HotSync operations are faster.4. Tap OK, or press Function + Enter .Wireless IMAP folder synchronizationIf you create an IMAP folder in an account on your handheld that matches a folderon the mail server, you can wirelessly synchronize e-mail messages that you moveinto or out of the IMAP folder, or delete in the folder.When you synchronize a folder, any e-mail messages in the selected folder on themail server will be downloaded to the same folder on your handheld. Anymessages moved out of the selected folder on your handheld or deleted on yourhandheld will be moved or deleted in the folder on the mail server.Depending on how you have set up IMAP folders on your handheld and/or themail server, you may have to perform some steps before you can wirelesslysynchronize e-mail messages between your handheld and the server, as follows:n If you need to create a folder on both your handheld and the server, see“Creating and editing mail folders” earlier in this chapter.
