19Time Codes/User’s BitTime codesTime codes are used to indicate the absolute positionof the tape in hour, minute, second and frameincrements: the time code signals generated by thetime code generator (time code signal generator) arerecorded on the tape and read by the time codereader (time code signal reader).Time codes are written into the sub-code area (dataarea) on the helical track.This enables the VTR’s playback to be read out fromthe stop mode through slow-motion playback to high-speed playback.The time code value appears on the display or issuperimposed onto the screen.TCR 00 : 07 : 04 : 24Hours Minutes Seconds FramesUser’s bitAmong the time code signals, the user’s bit refers tothe 32-bit (8-digit) information frame that is released tothe user.
