10-3Vehicle careTo close, lift bonnet slightly, releasethe support rod from the hole andpress it back into its retaining clip.Lower the bonnet gradually, allowingit to drop from a height of approx.30 cm.Check that the bonnet is locked inposition before driving, by pulling atits front edge. If it is not engaged,repeat closing procedure.Engine oilInformation on engine oil is in thechapter “ Service and maintenance”3 11-6.We recommend the engine oil level ischecked before starting a long trip.The engine oil level must be checkedwith the vehicle horizontal and withthe engine (which must be atoperating temperature) switched off.Wait a few minutes before checkingthe level to allow the normal oilaccumulation in the engine to drainback into the oil pan.Pull out dipstick from the tube, wipe itclean and re-insert it as far as it willgo. After pulling the dipstick outagain, check the engine oil level,ensuring it is between the lower andupper ( MIN and MAX) marks.The illustrations show checking theengine oil in the K 10 B and K 12 Bpetrol engines and the diesel enginesrespectively.Top up if the engine oil level hasdropped to the "add oil" lower mark(MIN mark).CautionImportant: It is the owner’sresponsibility to maintain the properlevel of an appropriate quality oil inthe engine.
