3-13Seats, restraints and interiorAirbag systemThe airbag system consists of severalindividual systems.When triggered, the driver’s and frontpassenger’s airbags inflate to formsafety cushions for the driver andfront passenger.When triggered, the side airbaginflates to form a safety cushion forthe driver and/or front passenger inthe respective door area.When triggered, the curtain airbaginflates to provide a safety barrier inthe head area on the respective sideof the vehicle.No impairment of view will occur, asairbags inflate and deflate so quicklythat they are often not noticed in anaccident. The airbag system and belttensioner control electronics can befound in the centre console area. Inorder to avoid malfunctions, do notstore magnetic objects in this area. Do not stick or place anything onthe steering wheel, instrumentpanel, front seatbacks in the vicinityof the airbags and seat areas orcover them with other materials. Each airbag can be triggered onlyonce. Once triggered, an airbagmust be replaced immediately.Seek the assistance of a workshop. Do not perform any modifications tothe components of the airbagsystem, as this will render thevehicle unroadworthy. We recommend having thesteering wheel, the instrumentpanel, all panelling parts, the doorseals, handles and the front seatsremoved by a workshop.Control indicator for airbag systems3 5-9.Front airbag systemThe front airbag system is identifiedby the words AIRBAG and SRSAIRBAG on the steering wheel andabove the glove box respectively.9 WarningThe systems can be triggeredabruptly and cause injury if theyare handled improperly.
