10-22 Vehicle careWheel changingIn order to reduce the chance ofpossible injuries, make the followingpreparations and note the procedure: Park on a level, firm and non-slippery surface. Switch on hazard warning lampsand apply parking brake. Engagereverse gear (automatictransmission 3 in P). Take the spare wheel from underthe luggage compartment floorcover 3 10-24. Before raising the vehicle, turn frontwheels to straight-ahead position. Never change more than onewheel at a time. Block wheel diagonally oppositethe wheel to be changed, byplacing wedge blocks or equivalentin front and behind the wheel. Use jack only when changingwheels. If the ground on which the vehicle isparked is soft, a solid board (max.1 cm thick) should be placed underthe jack. Using a thicker boardcould lead to damage of the jackand the vehicle. Do not raise the vehicle more thanis necessary to change a wheel. No people or animals may be in thevehicle when it is jacked-up. Never start or run the engine orcrawl under a jacked-up vehicle. Before screwing on the wheel boltswhen changing a wheel, apply alight coating of grease to the coneof each wheel bolt.1. Prise off the wheel cover 3.2. Slacken the wheel bolts by oneturn each using the wheel boltwrench, putting the wrench onas far as possible.3. The location of front and rearjacking bars may be indicatedby notches on the bottom edgeof the vehicle, under the doors.
