The three parts oflabel stock are the top or face sheet, theadhesive, and the liner or carrier sheet,referred to as the backing sheet. The parts ofthe label stock are described below:F Top or face sheet: The top sheet is thesurface that the image is printed on. It isusually composed of photocopy paper.F Carrier or Backing Sheet: The backing sheetshould be bleached sulfate stock andsilicone-coated for easy release of the facesheet.F Adhesive: The adhesive should be stable atthe 392° F (200° C) temperatures encounteredin the fusing process and must not give offany emissions that exceed exposure levels orthreshold limits established by regional ornational safety agencies.Adhesives should not come in direct contactwith any part of the printer because thelabel stock may stick to the print drum orrollers, causing toner offset or paper jams.No adhesive should be exposed between thelabels. To test label stock for adhesiveexposure, press a sheet of plain paperagainst a sheet of label stock.
