Donot connect them to any networking device outside of the building inwhich the telephones are located.Adding Telephones This section tells you how to add 3Com Business and Basic Telephones tothe NBX system.Before you can Auto Discover any licensed devices, you must enter thedevice license into the system.Adding TelephonesDuring SystemInstallationThere are two ways to add a new telephone: Auto Discover, and manualconfiguration.■ Auto Discover method — Auto Discover is the simplest and mostcommon method of adding a new telephone. When you enable theAuto Discover feature and then connect a new 3Com Telephone tothe LAN, the telephone receives the next lowest available extensionand a default set of properties. The extension number appears on thetelephone’s display panel. For instructions on connecting a telephoneto the LAN, see “Connecting the Telephone to the LAN” on page 107.You typically use the Auto Discover feature when you are installing anNBX system for the first time and have several telephones to add. It isgood installation practice to Auto Discover telephones one at a time,label them with the extension number they have been assigned, andthen disconnect them. The customer can then use the extension labels
