3Com Router 3000 Ethernet FamilyConfiguration Guide Chapter 6 User Interface Configuration3Com Corporation6-2I. Absolute numberingThere are four categories of user interfaces in the system and they are ordered incertain sequence, specifically, CON, AUX, TTY, and VTY.z There is only one Console port and one AUX port, but there can be several TTYand VTY user interfaces, with the interfaces of each type being numberedseparately in sequence. With the absolute numbering approach, user interfacesare numbered starting at ui0 (Console port) and in ascending order. The Consoleand AUX ports each have one number while for the TTY and VTY interfaces, different products can have multiple numbers and you can use the displayuser-interface command to view the number. An absolute number can uniquelyspecify a user interface or a group of user interfaces.II. Relative numberingA relative number is in the form of user interface type + number. This number issignificant only inside the user interfaces of each type. In other words, such a numbercan only specify one user interface or a user interface group among the same type ofuser interfaces rather than among all the user interfaces in a unique way. Following isthe relative numbering rules:z CON is numbered con 0.z AUX is numbered aux 0.z TTYs are numbered starting at 0 in an ascending order.z VTYs are numbered starting at 0 in an ascending order.6.2 User Interface ConfigurationPerform the following tasks to configure a user interface:z Enter user interface viewz Configure the protocol supported by the current user interfacez Configure the attributes of asynchronous interfacez Configure terminal attributesz Configure user managementz Set modem attributesz Configure the auto-execute commandz Configure incoming and outgoing call restriction on VTY user interfacez Enable/disable console login re-authenticationz Define shortcut keys for starting terminal sessions/aborting tasks6.2.1 Entering User Interface ViewAccess a user interface view by entering the corresponding command in system view. You can access a single-user interface view to configure one user interface or access amulti-user interface view to configure several user interfaces at the same time.
