It caninclude different IEDs with remote communication possibilities. Connection to aPC can be made directly (if the PC is located in the substation), via a telephonemodem through a telephone network with ITU (former CCITT) characteristics orvia a LAN/WAN connection.glass <1000 m according to optical budgetplastic <25 m (inside cubicle) according to optical budgetFunctionality SEMOD115767-25 v3The SPA protocol V2.5 is an ASCII-based protocol for serial communication. Thecommunication is based on a master-slave principle, where the IED is a slave andthe PC is the master. Only one master can be applied on each fiber optic loop. Aprogram is required in the master computer for interpretation of the SPA-bus codesand for translation of the data that should be sent to the IED.For the specification of the SPA protocol V2.5, refer to SPA-bus CommunicationProtocol V2.5.21.5.2 Setting guidelines M11876-3 v7SPA, IEC 60870-5-103 and DNP3 use the same rear communication port. This portcan be set for SPA use on the local HMI under Main menu /Configuration /Communication /Station communication/Port configuration/SLM opticalserial port/PROTOCOL:1. When the communication protocol is selected, theIED is automatically restarted, and the port then operates as a SPA port. The SPA communication setting parameters are set on the local HMI under Mainmenu/Configuration/Communication/Station communication/SPA/SPA:1.1MRK 506 369-UEN B Section 21Station communicationLine distance protection REL670 2.2 IEC 831Application manual
