Chapter 3: Installation3-122E48-27R/2E49-27R User’s Guide2. Connect the twisted pair segment to the module by inserting the RJ45connector on the twisted pair segment into the RJ45 port on themodule shown in Figure 3-7.3. Verify that a link exists by checking that the port RX LED is on(flashing amber, blinking green, or solid green). If the RX LED is offand the TX LED is not blinking amber, perform the following stepsuntil it is on:a. Verify that the 100BASE-TX device at the other end of the twistedpair segment is powered up.b. Verify that the RJ45 connector on the twisted pair segment has theproper pinouts.c. Check the cable for continuity.d. Make sure that the twisted pair connection meets the db loss andcable specifications outlined in Section 2.4.e. Confirm that the crossover switch is in the correct position. If a link is not established, contact the Cabletron Systems Global CallCenter. Refer to Section 1.5 for details.3.4.3 Connecting a Fiber Optic Segment to theFE-100FX and FE-100F3The FE-100FX and FE-100F3 have an SC style network port (seeFigure 3-9). Cabletron Systems supplies fiber optic cable that uses SCstyle connectors, which are keyed to ensure proper crossover of thetransmit and receive fibers.NOTESAn odd number of crossovers (preferably one) must bemaintained between devices so that the transmit port of onedevice is connected to the receive port of the other device andvice versa. If the fiber optic cable being used has SC style connectors thatdo not resemble MIC style connectors, or has SC connectorson one end and a different type on the other, such as STconnectors, ensure that the proper crossing over occurs.
