Accessing Local Management2E48-27R/2E49-27R User’s Guide5-95.4.1 Navigating Local Management ScreensThe 2E4X-27R Local Management application consists of a series ofmenu screens. Navigate through Local Management by selecting itemsfrom the menu screens.The 2E4X-27R support three modes of switch operation. The switchingmodes are as follows:• 802.1D SWITCHING (IEEE 802.1D switching)• 802.1Q SWITCHING (IEEE 802.1Q port based VLANs)• SECURE FAST VLAN (Cabletron Systems SecureFast switching)The switch operational mode is set in the General Configuration screen(Section 5.7). Depending on the Operational Mode set for the device, thehierarchy of the Local Management screens differs as shown inFigure 5-4, Figure 5-5 and Figure 5-6. Refer to the appropriate figure thatrelates to the Operational Mode set for the device to see the applicableLocal Management screen hierarchy.NOTEThe User’s password is one of the community names specifiedin the SNMP Community Names screen. Access to certainLocal Management capabilities depends on the degree ofaccess accorded that community name. Refer to Section 5.8.If an invalid password is entered, the terminal beeps and thecursor returns to the beginning of the password entry field.Entering a valid password causes the associated access levelto display at the bottom of the screen and the Device Menuscreen to display.If no activity occurs for several minutes, the Local ManagementPassword screen redisplays and the password has to bereentered.NOTERefer to the Release Notes shipped with the product to verifywhich screens are supported in each of the three availableswitching modes.
