Keep hands,clothing, and tools away from anyunderbonnet electric fan.{ WarningUsing a match near a battery cancause battery gas to explode. Peoplehave been hurt doing this, andsome have been blinded. Use atorch if you need more light.Battery fluid contains acid that canburn you. Do not get it on you.If you accidentally get it in youreyes or on your skin, flush the placewith water and get medical helpimmediately.{ WarningFans or other moving engine partscan injure you badly. Keep yourhands away from moving partsonce the engine is running.5. Connect one end of the redpositive (+) cable to the remotepositive (+) terminal on thedischarged battery.6. Connect the other end of the redpositive (+) cable to thepositive (+) terminal of the goodbattery.7. Connect one end of the blacknegative (–) cable to the negative(–) terminal of the good battery.8. Connect the other end of theblack negative (–) cable to theremote negative (–) groundingterminal for the dischargedbattery.9. Start the engine in the vehiclewith the good battery and runthe engine at idle speed for atleast four minutes.10. Try to start the vehicle that hadthe dead battery. If it will notstart after a few tries, it probablyneeds service.CautionIf the jump leads are connected orremoved in the wrong order,electrical shorting may occur anddamage the vehicle. The repairswould not be covered by the vehiclewarranty. Always connect andremove the jump leads in thecorrect order, making sure that thecables do not touch each other orother metal.Jump Lead RemovalReverse the sequence exactly whenremoving the jump leads.After starting the disabled vehicle andremoving the jump leads, allow it toidle for several minutes.
