1Common Functions1-32Before You Start Using the MachineCommon FunctionsThe machine is equipped with the following energy-saving functions.Sleep FunctionNOTE• While the machine is in sleep mode, you can still use the print fucntions and control the machine from apersonal computer.Auto Sleep FunctionIf the machine is not operated for a period of about two hours after copying has finished or after akeying operation, the machine enters the sleep mode. You can also set the machine so that it will notgo into sleep mode.NOTE• You can set the period of time before the machine enters the sleep mode, from 30 minutes to 24 hours.(See “Setting the Time to Initiate Auto Sleep After Finishing Operations,” in the Reference Guide.)Energy Saver ModeWhen the copy functions of the machine will not be used for a long time, you can press thekey to put the machine in energy saver mode. In the energy saver mode, power consumption isreduced. To resume copying, press the key again.Pressing the power switch on the control panel also reactivates the machine.NOTE• The following energy saver mode settings can be selected: –66% mode, and Return Directly to standardmode. (See “Changing the Energy Saver Mode,” in the Reference Guide.)• While in the energy saver mode, the machine can still perform communications functions and print docu-ments sent from a personal computer.When the power switch on the control panel isturned to OFF, the touch panel display turns off andthe machine enters the sleep mode.The sleep mode helps to conserve power, but therewill be a slight delay when starting to use themachine the next time.To reactivate the machine, press the power switchon the control panel.
