The DellSCSI drivers for NetWare support the optional AdaptecAHA-2940 and all Adaptec 78xx series SCSI controllers. Before you begin installation of the SCSI drivers forNovell NetWare, you must create a diskette of drivers forthe version of NetWare you are using and a diskette thatcontains the Adaptec EZ-SCSI utility. Chapter 2, “Usingthe Dell Server Assistant CD,” provides instructions forcreating these diskettes. The Dell SCSI drivers for NetWare are fully NetWare-tested and approved. The \scsi subdirectory on theNetWare 4.x drivers diskette you create contains files tobe used with NetWare 4.x. The following files appear inthe \scsi subdirectories on the NetWare driver diskette:• readme.txt — An American Standard Code forInformation Interchange (ASCII) text file describingAdaptec’s drivers for NetWare.• aic7870.dsk — Adaptec’s 78xx Family driver forNetWare.• aspitran.dsk — Adaptec’s ASPI ® transport layerdriver for NetWare.• aspicd.dsk — Adaptec’s device driver for aCD-ROM drive.• aic7870.ddi — A driver definition information fileto provide setup information to NetWare duringinstallation; NetWare can then prompt you withparameters to be configured for the device driverduring the installation process.• aspicd.ddi — A device driver definition file.• aspitran.ddi — A device driver definition file.To begin driver installation, first load the EZ-SCSI utilityas described in the following subsection “InstallingEZ-SCSI,” and then calculate the slot number asdescribed in “Calculating the Slot Number” later in thissection. Then, if you are performing a first-time NetWareinstallation, see “Installing NetWare and the Driver” laterin this section. If NetWare is already installed in yoursystem, see “Using NetWare to Update or Install theDriver” later in this section.NOTE: Your system must have a complete version ofMS-DOS (version 6.2x) installed before you can com-plete the Novell NetWare installation.Installing EZ-SCSIThe Adaptec EZ-SCSI utility automatically configures thecomputer to use an Adaptec SCSI host adapter and thedevices connected to it. The Adaptec EZ-SCSI utility alsocopies applications and device drivers to the computer’shard-disk drive. The configuration and installation processis explained with a series of screens. In most cases, thecomputer and SCSI devices are configured to take fulladvantage of all the performance benefits of SCSI whenyou accept the default values suggested by these screens.Follow these steps to install the Adaptec EZ-SCSI utility:1. If you have not already done so, create anAdaptec EZ-SCSI diskette for the version of Net-Ware you are using.Chapter 2, “Using the Dell Server Assistant CD,”provides instructions for creating this diskette.2. Insert your Adaptec EZ-SCSI diskette into dis-kette drive A.3. Type dosinst and press .A message appears while the EZ-SCSI utility loadsinto memory.
