4-10 Dell PowerEdge 6100/200 System User’s GuideSecond I/O APICIf this category is set to Enabled, the operating systemreports the second I/O Advanced Peripheral Interruptcontroller (APIC) in the MPS tables. The default settingis Disabled.PIC Interrupt RoutingWhen this category is set to Through IO APIC, the inter-rupt mapping connects to the microprocessor’s localAPIC through the I/O APIC. When set to Default (thedefault), the INTR and NMI signals are connecteddirectly to the microprocessor’s local APIC, bypassingthe I/O APIC.IOQ DepthThis category sets configures the In-Order Queue to sup-port a specified number (8, 1, or Auto Configure [defaultsetting]) of pending pipelined transactions on the micro-processor bus.GAT ModeOptions are Aliased (default) and Normal.Outbound PostingThis category is used to enable or disable (default setting)write posting to the PCI bus from the microprocessor bus.PCI Line PrefetchThis category is used to enable (default) or disable up tothree additional cache lines in response to PCI Line Readand PCI Read Multiple commands.Addr Bit PermutingIf this category is set to Enabled, the memory controllerwill swap high-order row selection bits with low-orderbits when computing the effective memory address. Thedefault setting is Disabled.Chip Set Register SettingsThis category configures several performance features ofthe computer chipset based on the chipset’s hardwarerevision level. The recommended setting is Auto Config-ure, which allows the BIOS to optimize these settingsbased on your system’s chipset.AERR ModeThis category enables (the default setting) or disablesaddress parity error detection on the microprocessor bus.EERR ModeThis category enables or disables (the default setting)system reporting of EISA bus time-out errors.PERR ModeThis category enables or disables (the default setting)detection of PCI bus protocol violations.Plug and Play Configuration SubmenuThe following categories appear in the Plug and PlayConfiguration submenu.Latency Timer (PCI Clocks)This category ensures that a PCI card can access the PCIbus within the specified number of PCI clocks.Boot With PnP OSThis category is used to determine how the non-bootdevices are initialized. If this category is set to None (thedefault), the BIOS initializes all non-boot devices. If setto Other, the operating system initializes all non-bootdevices. Windows 95 is not an option on this system.Security Menu CategoriesThis section explains the system setup categories in theSecurity menu (see Figure 4-6).The Dell PowerEdge 6100 systems feature several levelsof security features. You can set up a user password torestrict system access at system boot, and following peri-ods of system inactivity. Several of the security featurescan be also configured using the system configurationutility. (Some security category names are slightly differ-ent in the system configuration utility.) You can restrictaccess to the system configuration utility using theadministrative password, as described in Chapter 5.
