Installing SCSI Hard-Disk Drives 6-5Installing a SCSI Hard-Disk Drive Withthe System RunningInstall a SCSI hard-disk drive as follows:1. Wait until the drive status indicators adjacent tothe drive bay signal that the drive can be removed(see Table 6-1).If the drive has been online, the three drive indica-tors will flash sequentially as the drive is powereddown. When all three indicators stop flashing, thedrive is ready for removal.2. Insert the “new” drive carrier into the bay.Perform steps 2–6 in “Installing a SCSI Hard-DiskDrive,” earlier in this chapter.3. The drive online indicator will turn on (seeTable 6-1).Partitioning and Formatting SCSIHard-Disk DrivesYou may need to use different programs than those pro-vided with the operating system to partition and formatSCSI hard-disk drives. See Chapter 3, “Installing andConfiguring SCSI Drivers,” for information andinstructions.CAUTION: When you perform at low-level formatoperation on a hard-disk drive, it is important toensure that the drive’s surrounding temperature isat or near the temperature at which the drive willbe operated. Failure to do so can result inrelocation of the tracks on the disk platters.
