Installing and Configuring SCSI Drivers 3-114. When the first EZ-SCSI screen appears, read thetext carefully. You can press on any screen for additionalhelp. (Press to exit a Help screen.)5. Press to continue with the installation.6. Follow the instructions that appear on the screen.Press at every screen to accept theEZ-SCSI default values. If you accept all the default values, the EZ-SCSI util-ity copies the files from the diskette to the c:\scsidirectory. (The EZ-SCSI utility creates this directoryif the directory does not already exist.) The EZ-SCSIutility also adds command lines to your computer’sconfiguration files (autoexec.bat and/or config.sys)that will load the required device drivers into mem-ory when you boot your computer.Press to continue after the EZ-SCSI utilityenters changes to your system configuration files. If you want to copy the files to a different directoryor control the changes to your configuration files, follow the instructions on the screen. Press onany screen to see more information.NOTE: If the EZ-SCSI utility is unable to locate themscdex.exe file in the c:\dos directory, it will promptfor a pathname to access this file. (Without this file, the utility cannot access the computer’s CD-ROMdrive.)7. When the following message appears on thescreen, press or to exit theEZ-SCSI utility:(Adaptec EZ-SCSI has been successfullyinstalled…)8. Remove the Adaptec EZ-SCSI diskette from thedrive; then, reboot your computer by pressing.Calculating the Slot NumberThe slot number is used to uniquely identify eachAdaptec 78xx Family host adapter installed in your sys-tem. To properly load the driver for each Adaptec 78xxhost adapter, you will need to calculate the slot number toinclude it as part of the load command line.NOTE: The Novell NetWare operating system will auto-matically calculate the slot number for you if you areinstalling only one expansion card. If you are installingmultiple expansion cards, use the following procedure tocalculate the slot number. To calculate the slot number, you must first obtain thebus:device xx:xxh values identified when running theSCSISelect utility for your host adapter. This calculationis done manually, as described in the following steps:1. Make sure your system is properly set up andconfigured.2. Run the SCSISelect utility for your host adapter.See “The SCSISelect Utility” earlier in this chapterfor general instructions.3. The first screen of the SCSISelect utility displaysthe bus:device xx:xxh numbers in the upper right-hand corner. Write down these numbers exactlyas they appear. The bus variable refers to the PCI bus on the system. The default for bus is 0. Because the PowerEdge 6100system has peer PCI buses, and the built-in AIC-7880host adapters are located on the second bus, the busvalue for these host adapters is usually 1.The device variable refers to the physical slot num-ber on the PCI bus. The device number is in hex; youmust convert it to a decimal number. The devicenumber for the SCSI A is 11; the device number forthe SCSI B is usually 12.NOTE: The device slot number identified throughSCSISelect is not the same as the slot number neededto load the driver through the load command line.Use the following formula to calculate the slotnumber:slot number = (bus * 100) + device + 16For example, if the bus:device number is 0:06h (thatis, bus 0, device 6), the slot number is 22 (22 =[0 * 100] + 6 + 16). The slot number for the built-inAIC-7880 host adapter is 126 (126 = [1 * 100] + 10+ 16).
