3-12 Dell PowerEdge 6100/200 System User’s GuideInstalling NetWare and the DriverThis subsection describes how to install the aic7870.dskdriver at the same time you install NetWare 4.x. If Net-Ware 4.x is already installed and you wish to install orupdate the aic7870.dsk driver, see “Using NetWare toInstall or Update the Driver” later in this section.Performing a NetWare 4.xInstallationFollow these steps only if you are installing or upgradingNetWare 4.x for the first time:1. Make backup copies of all Novell diskettes, anduse those backup copies as your workingdiskettes.2. Boot MS-DOS on your computer.3. Change to the directory where the installationfiles are found. For a CD-ROM, the subdirectoryis similar to d:\netware4.0\english\.4. Type install and press .5. Select Install New NetWare V4.x if you areinstalling NetWare 4.x for the first time orUpgrade NetWare V3.1x or V4.x if you areupgrading to NetWare 4.x.6. Follow the instructions in the NetWare User’sGuide for partitioning, creating a server name,and checking the internetwork packet exchange(IPX) network number.7. When a screen appears asking you to select a diskdriver, press .8. Insert the NetWare 4.x driver diskette that youcreated earlier (when you installed the EZ-SCSIutility) into the diskette drive.If you have not already created this diskette, refer toChapter 2, “Using the Dell Server Assistant CD,” forinstructions.9. Press and specify the path to the aic7870.dskdriver for NetWare (for example, a:\scsi).10. Select the aic7870.dsk driver and press .NOTE: Specific help text for each driver appears inthe middle of the screen as you scroll down the list.The Loaded Drivers window below the list of avail-able drivers displays the names of drivers that areloaded and operational. For a new installation, thislist is initially empty. For a selective installation, thelist shows the diskette drivers already running.11. Specify the server directory (usually, c:\nwserver)and press . The installation program cop-ies the necessary files to this directory.12. When the screen displays Loading driveraic7870.dsk, Please Wait, switch to theSystem Console screen.Press to switch screens.13. The driver prompts you for the slot number.Enter the slot number you calculated for yourhost adapter, and press .See “Calculating the Slot Number” earlier in thissection. You are automatically switched back to con-tinue with the installation.14. When you have correctly entered the slot number,press to load the driver.15. You must load the driver again for both inte-grated host adapters as well as any optional hostadapter cards in the system.NOTE: If your system has multiple host adapters,each host adapter must have its own SCSI bus, andits hardware must be configured properly for usewith multiple adapters. See the instructions in thehost adapter’s User’s Guide.Refer to the NetWare User’s Guide for informationon installing other NetWare Loadable Modules(NLMs). If an error message appears when youattempt to load the driver, see “Troubleshooting forNetWare” later in this section.16. Select Continue the Installation to create diskpartitions and system volumes and to specify vol-ume names following the procedures listed in theNetWare User’s Guide.17. To load the driver automatically at server start-up, make sure the startup.ncf file includes the loadcommand line and correct slot number for yourhost adapter.See “Using startup.ncf and autoexec.ncf” later in thissection.
