Using the System Setup Program 4-15When the User Password Is category displays Disabled, youcan assign a user password or operate the system with nopassword assigned.To change an existing user password, first enter the sys-tem setup program, select the Set User Passwordcategory, and enter the current user password. Thenassign a new password as described in “Assigning a UserPassword” earlier in this section.Disabling a Forgotten PasswordIf you forget your user or administrative password, youcannot operate your system or change settings in the sys-tem setup program, respectively, until a trained servicetechnician opens the computer chassis, changes the pass-word DIP switch setting to disable the passwords, anderases the existing passwords. This procedure isdescribed in “Disabling a Forgotten Password” in Appen-dix C of the Installation and Troubleshooting Guide.Responding to Error MessagesIf an error message appears while the system is booting,make a note of the message. Then, before entering thesystem setup program, refer to Chapter 3, “Messages andCodes,” in your Installation and Troubleshooting Guidefor an explanation of the message and suggestions forcorrecting any errors. (An exception to this routine: It isnormal to receive an error message the first time you bootyour system after a memory upgrade is installed. In thatsituation, follow the instructions beginning with step 10of “Performing a Memory Upgrade” in Chapter 8 of theInstallation and Troubleshooting Guide.)
