Installing SCSI Hard-Disk Drives 6-3R emoving and Installing a SCSIHard-Disk DriveThe following subsections describe how to remove orinstall SCSI hard-disk drive carriers in the computer’sinternal drive bays.Removing a SCSI Hard-Disk DriveRemove a SCSI hard-disk drive from an internal drivebay as follows:1. If a PowerEdge Expandable RAID Controllerhost adapter card is not installed in the system, turn off the system. If a PowerEdge Expandable RAID Controller hostadapter card is installed in the system, see “Removingand Installing a SCSI Hard-Disk Drive With the Sys-tem Running” later in this chapter.2. Release the carrier by pulling down the plasticdrive handle. Slide the carrier toward you until itis free of the drive bay.Make sure the keylock is unlocked so that the hard-disk drive is not locked in place (see Figure 6-2).When the drive is in use, you may want to use thekeylock to prevent accidental or unauthorizedremoval.Installing a SCSI Hard-Disk DriveInstall a SCSI hard-disk drive in an internal drive bay asfollows:1. If a PowerEdge Expandable RAID Controllerhost adapter card is not installed in the computer, turn off the system. If a PowerEdge Expandable RAID Controller hostadapter card is installed in the system, see “Remov-ing and Installing a SCSI Hard-Disk Drive With theSystem Running” later in this chapter.2. Position the drive with its carrier side down, andinsert it, connector end first, into the bay (Fig-ure 6-2).3. Holding the drive carrier by its sides, slide thedrive into the bay.4. When the pins on the drive carrier handle contactthe drive bay, lift the handle to draw the drivecarrier into the bay and lock the drive in place.Figure 6-2. Installing a SCSI Hard-Disk Drive5. Install any required SCSI device drivers.See Chapter 3, “Installing and Configuring SCSIDrivers,” for information.6. Test the SCSI devices.Run the SCSI Devices Test Group in the systemdiagnostics. See Chapter 5, “Running the SystemDiagnostics,” in the Installation and Troubleshoot-ing Guide for information.Removing and Installing a SCSIHard-Disk Drive With the SystemRunningIf the PowerEdge 6100 system has a PowerEdge Expand-able RAID Controller host adapter card installed andconnected to the SCSI backplane board and if the hard-disk drives are in a redundant array, you can remove andinsert SCSI hard-disk drives while the system is running.handlepins (2)hard-disk drivekeylock
