Using the System Setup Program 4-9Figure 4-5. Advanced Chipset Configuration SubmenuThe Advanced Chipset Configuration submenu containsthe following categories.Base Memory SizeThe Base Memory Size category selects the amount ofmemory available to MS-DOS programs that do not useextended or expanded memory. The default value for theBase Memory Size category is 640 KB, which includes1 kilobyte (KB) reserved for system use. The alternatebase memory option is 512 KB.VGA Buffer AttributesIf this category is set to USWC (Uncacheable Specula-tive Write Combined), the microprocessor(s) can performspeculative combining while writing to the video graph-ics array (VGA) frame buffer. Unless a VGA controllerthat supports this feature is installed in the system, thiscategory should be set to Uncacheable (the default).Cache ModeThis category sets the microprocessor’s built-in cachememory to use Write Back mode (the default) or WriteThrough mode.SMMThis category enables system management mode, includ-ing event logging and error correction code (ECC)memory support. The default setting is Disabled.MPS VersionThis category specifies the multiprocessing specification(MPS) number used by the operating system. This cate-gory is set by Dell to 1.4, which is the correct value forthe Dell PowerEdge 6100 system. If the system setupprogram categories are reset to their default values, youneed to change this value from 1.1 to 1.4.Base Memory 640 KBVGA Buffer Attributes UncacheableCache Mode Write BackSMM EnabledMPS Version 1.4Second I/O APIC DisabledPIC Interrupt Routing DefaultIOQ Depth Auto ConfigureGAT Mode AliasedOutbound Posting DisabledPCI Line Prefetch EnabledAddr Bit Permuting DisabledChip Set Register Settings Auto ConfigureAERR Mode EnabledEERR Mode DisabledPERR Mode DisabledF1 HelpESC BackEnter SelectPrevious ItemNext ItemSelect MenuF5 Setup DefaultsF6 Previous ValueF10 Save & ExitAdvanced Chipset Configuration
