254 BigIron RX Series Configuration Guide53-1001810-01Configuring LLDP9Configuration notes and considerations• LLDP is supported on Ethernet interfaces only.• If a port is 802.1X-enabled, the transmission and reception of LLDP packets will only takeplace while the port is authorized.• Cisco Discovery Protocol (CDP) and Foundry Discovery Protocol (FDP) run independently ofLLDP. Therefore, these discovery protocols can run simultaneously on the same device.• By default, the Brocade device limits the number of neighbors per port to four, and staggersthe transmission of LLDP packets on different ports, in order to minimize any high-usagespikes to the CPU.• By default, the Brocade device forwards• Ports that are in blocking mode (spanning tree) can still receive LLDP packets from aforwarding port.• Auto-negotiation status indicates what is being advertised by the port for 802.3auto-negotiation.Enabling and disabling LLDPLLDP is enabled by default on individual ports. However, to run LLDP, you must first enable it on aglobal basis (on the entire device). To enable LLDP globally, enter the following command at the global CONFIG level of the CLI.FastIron(config)#lldp runSyntax: [no] lldp runSpecifying the maximum number of LLDPneighbors per portAutomatically set to 4 neighbors per portEnabling SNMP notifications and Syslog messages DisabledChanging the minimum time between SNMP trapsand Syslog messagesAutomatically set to 2 seconds when SNMP notifications andSyslog messages for LLDP are enabledEnabling and disabling TLV advertisements When LLDP transmit is enabled, by default, the Brocadedevice will automatically advertise LLDP capabilities, exceptfor the system description, VLAN name, andpower-through-MDI information, which may be configured bythe system administrator. Also, if desired, you can disable the advertisement ofindividual TLVs.Changing the minimum time between LLDPtransmissionsAutomatically set to 2 secondsChanging the interval between regular LLDPtransmissionsAutomatically set to 30 secondsChanging the holdtime multiplier for transmit TTL Automatically set to 4Changing the minimum time between portreinitializationsAutomatically set to 2 secondsTABLE 59 LLDP global configuration tasks and default behavior / value (Continued)Global task Default behavior / value when LLDP is enabled
