BigIron RX Series Configuration Guide 64753-1001810-01Configuring DVMRP 23Configuring DVMRPEnabling DVMRP globally and on an interfaceSuppose you want to initiate the use of desktop video for fellow users on a sprawling campusnetwork. All destination workstations have the appropriate hardware and software but the deviceesthat connect the various buildings need to be configured to support DVMRP multicasts from thedesignated video conference server as seen in Figure 96.DVMRP is enabled on each of the device devices, shown in Figure 96, on which multicasts areexpected. You can enable DVMRP on each device independently or remotely from one device by aTelnet connection. Follow the same steps for each router.Globally enabling and disabling DVMRPTo globally enable DVMRP, enter the following command.BigIron RX(config)# router dvmrpBigIron RX(config)#Syntax: [no] router dvmrp• Entering a router dvmrp command to enable DVMRP does not require a software reload.• Entering a no router dvmrp command removes all configuration for PIM multicast on a device(router pim level) only.Globally enabling or disabling DVMRP without deleting multicast configurationAs stated above enter no router dvmrp removed PIM configuration. If you want to disable or enableDVMRP without removing PIM configuration, enter the following command.BigIron RX(config)# router dvmrpBigIron RX(config-pim-router)# disable-dvmrpSyntax: [no] disable-dvmrpUse the [no] version of the command to re-enable DVMRP.Enabling DVMRP on an interfaceAfter globally enabling DVMRP on a device, enable it on each interface that will support theprotocol. To enable DVMRP on Router 1 and interface 3, enter the following.Router1(config)# router dvmrpRouter1(config-dvmrp-router)# int e 3/1Router1(config-if-e10000-3/1)# ip dvmrpModifying DVMRP global parametersDVMRP global parameters come with preset values.
