Installing Drives in the Internal Bays 10-3Removing a SCSI Hard-Disk DriveRemove a SCSI hard-disk drive from an internal drivebay as follows:1. If a PowerEdge Expandable RAID Controllerhost adapter card is not installed in the computer, turn off the system.2. Release the carrier by pulling down the plasticdrive handle. Slide the carrier toward you until itis free of the drive bay.Installing a SCSI Hard-Disk DriveInstall a SCSI hard-disk drive in an internal drive bay asfollows:1. If a PowerEdge Expandable RAID Controllerhost adapter card is not installed in the computer, turn off the system.2. Position the drive with its carrier side down andinsert it, connector end first, into the bay (see Fig-ure 10-2).3. Holding the drive carrier by its sides, slide thedrive into the bay.4. When the pins on the drive carrier handle contactthe drive bay, lift the handle to draw the drivecarrier into the bay and lock the drive in place.5. Install any required SCSI device drivers.See Chapter 3, “Installing and Configuring SCSIDrivers,” in the User’s Guide for information.6. Test the SCSI devices.Run the SCSI Devices Test Group in the systemdiagnostics. See Chapter 5, “Running the SystemDiagnostics.”Figure 10-2. Installing a SCSI Hard-Disk DriveCarrierRemoving and Inserting a SCSI Hard-Disk Drive With the System RunningIf the Dell PowerEdge 4200 system has a PowerEdgeExpandable RAID Controller host adapter card installedand connected to the SCSI backplane board, you canremove and insert SCSI hard-disk drives while the sys-tem is running. Before attempting to remove or insert a drive while thesystem is running, see the documentation for the Power-edge Expandable RAID Controller host adapter card toensure that the SCSI host adapter is configured correctlyto support drive removal and insertion.CAUTION: Removing and installing SCSI hard-disk drives with the system running is not supportedfor systems without a PowerEdge Expandable RAIDController host adapter. Removing a drive in this situa-tion will result in a loss of data.
