7-8 Dell PowerEdge 4200 Systems Installation and Troubleshooting GuideTroubleshooting the BatteryIf an error message indicates a problem with thebattery, or if the System Setup program loses the systemconfiguration information when the computer is turnedoff, the battery may be defective.Follow these steps to troubleshoot the battery:1. Turn off the system, including any attachedperipherals, and disconnect all the AC powercables from their power sources.2. Remove the left computer cover.See “Removing the Computer Covers” found earlierin this chapter.3. Check the connection of the coin cell battery tothe system board.Is the battery firmly installed in the battery socket onthe system board?Yes. Go to step 5.No. Go to step 4.4. Reseat the battery in its socket.Is the problem resolved?Yes. The battery was loose. You have fixed theproblem.No. Go to step 5.5. You have fixedthe problem.No. See Chapter 11, “Getting Help,” for instructionson obtaining technical assistance.Troubleshooting Power SupplyProblemsThe optional redundant power supplies in Dell Power-Edge 4200 systems are controlled by the power supplyparalleling board. If a power supply paralleling board isinstalled, the two indicators on the back of the power sup-ply (see Figure 7-6) signal the status of the power supply.If the red power-supply fault indicator lights up, thepower supply should be replaced.Figure 7-6. Power Supply FeaturesReplacing a Power SupplyFollow these steps to replace a power supply:1. Turn the locking switch on the power supply tothe “standby” position, which is marked by a par-tial circle with a line through the top.2.
