Replace the computer cover, and reconnect thecomputer and peripherals to their power sources.10. Connect the external device(s) to power. For each external device, plug the socket end of thepower cable into the alternating current (AC) powerreceptacle on the back of the device. Plug the otherend of the power cable into an AC power source.11. Install any required SCSI device drivers.See Chapter 3, “Installing and Configuring SCSIDrivers,” in the User’s Guide for information andinstructions.12. Test the SCSI devices.Test a SCSI hard-disk drive by running the SCSIDevices Test Group in the system diagnostics. SeeChapter 5, “Running the System Diagnostics,” forinformation. To test a SCSI tape drive, also refer to the documen-tation for the tape drive software to perform a tapedrive backup and verification test.Configuring the Boot DeviceIf the user plans to boot the system from a hard-diskdrive, the drive must be attached to the primary (or boot)controller or SCSI host adapter card. The primary con-troller is automatically determined by the specific systemconfiguration according to the following generalguidelines:• If the PCI Scan Sequence category in the SystemSetup program is set to Embedded Devices First, thebuilt-in Ultra/Wide host adapter is the primarycontroller.• If the PCI Scan Sequence category in the SystemSetup program is set to Slot Devices First, the sys-tem boots from a SCSI host adapter card in anexpansion slot. If more than one SCSI host adaptercard is installed, the boot order is determined by theparticular expansion slot in which the card isinstalled. In descending order of precedence, theboot order for Dell PowerEdge 4200 systems isPC15, PCI4, PCI8, PCI7, and PCI6.Partitioning and Formatting SCSIHard-Disk DrivesYou may need to use different programs than those pro-vided with the operating system to partition and formatSCSI hard-disk drives. See Chapter 3, “Installing andConfiguring SCSI Drivers,” in the User’s Guide forinformation and instructions.external SCSIdevicescomputer
