A-4 Netopia ISDN Router Reference GuidePower outagesIf you suspect that power was restored after a power outage, andthe Netopia ISDN Router is connected to a remote site, you mayneed to switch the Netopia ISDN Router off and then back on again.After temporary power outages, a connection that still seems to beup may actually be disconnected. Rebooting the Router shouldreestablish the connection.Network problemsThis section contains tips on ways you can troubleshoot anetworking problem.Problems communicating with remote IP hostsn Verify the accuracy of the default gateway’s IP address (enteredin the IP Setup or IP Options screen).n Use the Netopia ISDN Router’s ping utility, in the Statistics,Tests, Utilities screen, and try to ping local and remote hosts.See “Ping” on page 10-5 for instructions on how to use theping utility. If you can successfully ping hosts using their IPaddresses but not their domain names (198.34.7.1 but notgarcia.farallon.com, for example), verify that the DNS server’sIP address is correct and that it is reachable from the NetopiaISDN Router (use ping).n If you are using filters, check that your filter sets are notblocking the type of connections you are trying to make.Local routing problemsn Observe the Ethernet LEDs to see if data traffic flow appears tobe normal.n Check the WAN Statistics and LAN Statistics screens to seemore specific information on data traffic flow and addressserving.
