47Basic TechniquesThis section explains about recording of movies and still images, and also basic settings on DVDPalmcorder.Basic Operation of DVD PalmcorderTurning DVD Palmcorder On or OffWhile holding down the red button at the center ofpower switch, set the switch according to eachrecording function:Power ON statusDuring playback, set the power switch to “VIDEO” or “ PHOTO” when using disc, or set itto “ PHOTO” when using card.Turn the switch while holding down the red buttonat the center of switch.Note :• Once you turn the DVD Palmcorder on to let it recognizethe disc, you can immediately record or play back byturning the DVD Palmcorder on again. However, if youremove the disc, replace it, or if the date changes afterpower is turned on, it will take some time for the DVDPalmcorder to start because it must recognize the discagain (See page 148).• It will take some time for the DVD Palmcorder to displaythe Disc navigation screen after power is turned on.• If you turn the DVD Palmcorder on, the ACCESS indicatorwill light or blink to show that the DVD Palmcorder isrecognizing the disc or card: During this time, nooperation, such as recording, can be performed.After several seconds, the ACCESS indicator will go out,and operating the DVD Palmcorder will be possible.• When the DVD Palmcorder is turned on, the self-diagnosis function will work and a message may appear.In this case, refer to “Error Messages” on page 150 andtake corrective action.• While the ACCESS/PC or CARD ACCESS indicator is litor blinking, do not violently open or close the LCDmonitor.Set to “ PHOTO”:To record still on DVD-RAM discSet to “ VIDEO”:To record movie on DVD-RAM or DVD-R discSet to “POWER OFF”:The DVD Palmcorder willturn off.Set to “ PHOTO”:To record still on SDMemory Card orMultiMediaCardPower switchACCESS/PCindicatorCARD ACCESSindicator
