111Time code and user’s bitTime codeThe time code is used when the time code signalgenerated by the time code generator (time codesignal generator) is to be recorded on the tape, itsvalues are to be read by the time code reader (timecode signal reader), and the absolute position of thetape is to be displayed in increments of hours,minutes, seconds and frames.The time code is written in the sub-code area (dataarea) of the helical track. This enables insert editingto be conducted independently using the time codealone. In addition, the VTR’s playback speed can beread from the stop mode to the slow motion playbackup to high-speed playback (approx. 50k normalspeed or approx. 100k normal speed when using aDVCPRO tape).The time code values are indicated on the display andsuperimposed display.TCR 00 : 07 : 04 : 23t t t tHours Minutes Seconds FramesUser’s bitThe “user’s bit” refers to the 32-bit (8-digit) data frameamong the time code signals which has been releasedto users. It enables operator numbers and othervalues to be recorded.The alphanumerics which can be used for the user’sbit are number 0 to 9 and letters A to F.Setting the internal time code1 Set the VTR to the stop mode.4 Setting RUN MD on the menuREC:The time code advances simultaneously with therecording.FREE:The time code advances, like time, irrespective ofthe VTR operation.F55 Setting TCG MD on the menuREGEN:The continuity of the underlying time code in placeprior to editing is maintained.PRE:The time code can be preset using the operationpanel controls or remote controller.AUTO:The time code is automatically switched to REGENor PRE depending on the VTR ’ s operation mode:during editing, REGEN is selected; at all othertimes, PRE is selected.F36 Registering the TC preset valuesDisplay the menu.• Preset (in the preset enable status)1 When among the number keys is pressed,the TC display switches to TCG (UBG), andthe TCG value characters (all digits) arehighlighted.2 When is pressed again, one digit ishighlighted, and the change enable status isestablished.3 Input the desired value using the numberkeys. The entire input value can be clearedby pressing while holding down .4 To input the letters used with the user ’ s bit,press the same number key (toggle bytapping or ) while holding down .
