Chapter 12: KX III Local Console396Local Console Smart Card AccessTo use a smart card to access a server at the Local Console, plug a USBsmart card reader into the KX III using one of the USB ports located onthe KX III.Once a smart card reader is plugged in or unplugged from the KX III, theKX III autodetects it.For a list of supported smart cards and additional system requirements,seeSupported Smart Card Readers (on page 432),Unsupported SmartCard Readers (on page 433) andSmart Card Minimum SystemRequirements (on page 431).When mounted onto the target server, the card reader and smart cardwill cause the server to behave as if they had been directly attached.Removal of the smart card or smart card reader will cause the usersession to be locked or you will be logged out depending on how the cardremoval policy has been setup on the target server OS.When the KVM session is terminated, either because it has been closedor because you switch to a new target, the smart card reader will beautomatically unmounted from the target server.To mount a smart card reader onto a target via the KX III Localconsole:1. Plug a USB smart card reader into the KX III using one of the USBports located on the device. Once attached, the smart card readerwill be detected by the KX III.2. From the Local Console, click Tools.3. Select the smart card reader from the Card Readers Detected list.Select None from the list if you do not want a smart card readermounted.4. Click OK. Once the smart card reader is added, a message willappear on the page indicating you have completed the operationsuccessfully. A status of either Selected or Not Selected will appearin the left panel of the page under Card Reader.
