General Symptom List127Printer OperationDownloads consistently fail NOTE: Most download problems are detected by softwareduring the procedure and communicated by LCDmessages. If downloads fail consistently with nomessages or with erratic messages, suspect ahardware failure.1. Power off the printer. Remove the paper path or pedestaltop cover. Check the I/O cable connections from the hostto the printer. Check the parallel cable connection at J112on the controller board. Inspect all cables for damaged,bent, broken, or burnt pins. Replace any damaged cables.Reconnect all I/O cables; make sure all connections areclean and tight.2. Remove the flash SIMM. Inspect the SIMM sockets on thecontroller board. If any socket pins are bent or damaged,replace the controller board.3. Check that customer has the right size SIMM for theemulation. (See page 234) Install the SIMM that supportthe emulation software.4. Power on the printer. Download the emulation (page 169).If the download fails, activate the Boot Diagnostics Menu(page 141) and run MISC. TOOLS MENU / RUNMEMORY TESTS. If memory fails test, replace theSDRAM. If memory tests OK, replace the flash SIMM.Boot code won’t copy 1. Power off the printer. Remove the flash SIMM. Inspect theflash SIMM socket on the controller board. If any SIMMsocket pins are bent or damaged, replace the controllerboard.2. Make sure the blank SIMM is the same size as the SIMMto be copied. Install the SIMM, making sure it is fully andcorrectly seated. Power on the printer. From the BootDiagnostics menu, select and run MISC. TOOLS MENU /COPY BOOT CODE. (See page 141.) If theDESTINATION NOT DETECTED message appears, theblank SIMM is not a type supported by the boot code onthe original SIMM. If SOURCE LARGER THANDESTINATION appears, the blank SIMM is not largeenough to contain the code on the original SIMM. If theSIMM does not copy or the ERROR WRITING TO FLASHmessage appears, replace the blank SIMM.3. Power on the printer. From the Boot Diagnostics menu,select and run MISC. TOOLS MENU / COPY BOOTCODE.
