If the speed is set to a value other than0.0%, and the status is Fix, the speed will remain atthe standard value until Fix is changed to Vari.7.6 Shuttle operationsThe JOG/SHUTTLE key and indicator cand shuttlewheel/jog dial control d are used to simulate the“rock and roll” location method on open-reel tapedecks, allowing you to locate a point on tape throughaudible cues.As the knob is moved from the center detented posi-tion, the shuttle speed becomes higher.The variation in speed is not continuous; but as youturn the knob from the center position, the shuttlespeed changes, following these values (relative tonormal speed): 0.25, 0.5, 1.0, 2.0, 4.0, 8.0. The 1.0speed is only available when shuttling in the forwarddirection.Shuttle operations are only possible when the JOG/SHUTTLE indicator is lit by pressing the JOG/SHUTTLE key. While shuttling is active, none of thetransport keys are lit.If the DATA ENTRY indicator b is lit when the JOG/SHUTTLE key is pressed, the DATA ENTRY indicatorgoes out and the dial can then be used for jogfunctions.NOTEIf the jog dial or shuttle wheel remain untouched at the cen-ter position for 10 seconds, the shuttle mode is disabled,and the indicator goes off. The STOP key lights.7.6.1 Shuttle monitoringThis is also covered in 5, “Monitoring modes”.The default behavior of the DA-98HR is that whenshuttling the tape, you can choose whether to monitortape or source signals when shuttling, using thetracks’ INPUT MONITOR switches.NOTEWhen monitoring in shuttle mode, the monitor signal isattenuated by 12 dB (to avoid possible damage to ears andspeakers).When AUTO MON (5.1.2, “AUTO MON”) is on, themonitoring of any armed tracks will be from the tape,unless shuttle monitoring is on, in which case, themonitoring of armed tracks will be source input. Themonitoring of all other (unarmed) tracks can still beswitched on a track-by-track basis using the tracks’INPUT MONITOR switches.Shuttle monitoring is only enabled when AUTO MONis on.
