7-18Timing beltInstalling the timing beltWhen the timing belt is not installed, donot turn the crankshaft or driven sprocket.Otherwise, the pistons and valves couldcollide with each other and be damaged.1. Check that the mark “a” in the drivesprocket and the protrusion “b” on thecylinder block are aligned. Check that the“I” marks “c” and “d” on the drivensprockets are aligned.2. Install a new timing belt with its part num-ber in the proper orientation, from thedrive sprocket side to the port and star-board driven sprockets, in the counter-clockwise direction.Do not apply grease or oil to the timingbelt.3. Adjust the timing belt to the specifiedinstallation height “a”.4.
