8-69Shimming (counter rotation model)Measuring the forward gear backlashand reverse gear backlash beforedisassemblyTwo washers (90201-26M00) are required forthe reverse gear backlash measurement inthe counter rotation model. Prepare thewashers before starting the shimming proce-dure.1. Install the lower unit onto a repair stand.2. Remove the water pump assembly.3. Set the gear shift to the N position.4. Set up the special service tools “1”, “2”,and “3”, and then tighten the center bolt“3” temporarily.5. Turn the drive shaft 10 turns or more.6. While holding the drive shaft to prevent itfrom turning, tighten the center bolt “1” tothe specified torque.7. Place the lower unit in an uprightposition.8. Remove the cover “1”, and then installthe outer plate cartridge “2”.9.
