Remove the reverse gear “1” and thrustbearing “2”.Disassembling the drive shafthousingSee “Disassembling the drive shaft housing”(8-21).Disassembling the reverse gear1. Remove the roller bearing inner race “1”.2. Remove the needle bearings from thereverse gear.Disassembling the lower case• Use heat-resistant gloves. Otherwise,burns could result.• To prevent fires, remove any flammablesubstances, such as gasoline and oil,around the working area.• Keep good ventilation while working.1. Remove the water inlet covers “1” and“2”.2. Heat the area of the lower case wherethe roller bearing outer race is to beinstalled using a gas torch, and thenremove the roller bearing outer race “1”and reverse gear shims “2”.When heating the lower case, heat theentire installation area evenly.
