4TNV98 & 4TNE98 Diesel Engine Section 1. General Service Information13Precautions and concerns regarding the use ofbio-fuels:1. Free methanol in FAME may result in corrosion ofaluminum and zinc FIE components.2. Free water in FAME may result in plugging of fuelfilters and increased bacterial growth.3. High viscosity at low temperatures may result infuel delivery problems, injection pump seizures, and poor injection nozzle spray atomization.4. FAME may have adverse effects on someelastomers (seal materials) and may result in fuelleakage and dilution of the engine lubricating oil.5. Even bio-diesel fuels that comply with a suitablestandard as delivered, will require additional careand attention to maintain the quality of the fuel inthe equipment or other fuel tanks. It is importantto maintain a supply of clean, fresh fuel. Regularflushing of the fuel system, and / or fuel storagecontainers, may be necessary.6. The use of bio-diesel fuels that do not comply withthe standards as agreed to by the diesel enginemanufacturers and the diesel fuel injectionequipment manufacturers, or biodiesel fuels thathave degraded as per the precautions andconcerns above, may affect the warrantycoverage of your engine.Filling The Fuel TankDANGERFIRE AND EXPLOSION HAZARD!Diesel fuel is flammable and explosive undercertain conditions.Only fill the fuel tank with diesel fuel. Filling thefuel tank with gasoline may result in a fire andwill damage the engine.NEVER refuel with the engine running.Wipe up all spills immediately.Keep sparks, open flames or any other form ofignition (match, cigarette, static electric source)well away when refueling.NEVER overfill the fuel tank.Fill the fuel tank. Store any containerscontaining fuel in a well-ventilated area, awayfrom any combustibles or sources of ignition.Failure to comply will result in death or seriousinjury.DANGERFIRE AND EXPLOSION HAZARD!Diesel fuel is flammable and explosive undercertain conditions.Be sure to place the diesel fuel container on theground when transferring the diesel fuel fromthe pump to the container. Hold the hose nozzlefirmly against the side of the container whilefilling it. This prevents static electricity buildupwhich could cause sparks and ignite fuel vapors.NEVER place diesel fuel or other flammablematerial such as oil, hay or dried grass close tothe engine during engine operation or shortlyafter shutdown.Failure to comply will result in death or seriousinjury.
