General Service Information19Engine Coolant SpecificationsUse a Long Life Coolant (LLC) or an Extended LifeCoolant (ELC) that meets or exceeds the followingguidelines and specifications:Additional Technical CoolantSpecifications:• ASTM D6210, D4985 (US)• JIS K-2234 (Japan)• SAE J814C, J1941, J1034 or J2036 (International)Alternative Engine CoolantIf an Extended or Long Life Coolant is not available,alternatively, you may use an ethylene glycol orpropylene glycol based conventional coolant(green).Notes:• ALWAYS use a mix of coolant and water. NEVER use wateronly.• Mix the coolant and water per the mixing instructions on thecoolant container.• Water quality is important to coolant performance. Yanmarrecommends that soft, distilled, or demineralized water beused to mix with coolants.• NEVER mix extended or long life coolants and conventional(green) coolants.• NEVER mix different types and / or colors of extended lifecoolants.• Replace the coolant every 1000 engine hours or once a year.Filling Radiator with Engine CoolantFill the radiator and reserve tank as follows. Thisprocedure is for filling the radiator for the first timeor refilling it after it is flushed. Note that a typicalradiator is illustrated (Figure 4-6).Figure 4-61. Check to be sure the radiator drain plugisinstalled and tightened or the drain cock(Figure4-6, (1)) is closed. Also make sure thecoolantdrain plug (Figure 4-7, (1)) in thecylinder block isclosed or the oil coolant hoses(Figure 4-8, (1))are installed at the oil cooler.Figure 4-7
