START-UPZEISS Mounting standard components Axiolab 554 430037-7444-001 05/20193.1.3 Inserting eyepieces or auxiliarymicroscope or pinhole diaphragm• Remove both dust caps (Fig. 3-4/1 and 5) fromthe binocular tube.• Remove both eyepieces (Fig. 3-4/2) from thebox and insert them into the binocular tube tothe stop.NOTEBefore inserting Pol eyepieces withtubes without upright reticles, theorientation screw on the reverse side ofthe eyepieces must be unscrewed. Theeyepieces cannot otherwise be fullyinserted.• Instead of an eyepiece you may insert an auxiliary microscope (301HFig. 3-4/3) into one of the binoculareyepiece tubes in order to observe aperture, phase and darkfield diaphragms and to center phase anddarkfield diaphragms. These diaphragms can be focused with the adjustable eye lens of the auxiliarymicroscope.• The auxiliary microscope (Fig. 3-4/3) or pinhole diaphragm (Fig. 3-4/4) can be used to observeconoscopic images.Inserting the eyepiece reticleEyepiece reticles (Fig. 3-5/5) can be used witheyepieces (Fig. 3-5/3) marked with a red dot(Fig. 3-5/R).• Unscrew mounting stop (Fig. 3-5/6) from theeyepiece (Fig. 3-5/3).• Pull locking ring (Fig. 3-5/4) out.• Insert eyepiece reticle (Fig. 3-5/5) into themounting stop and fix it with the locking ring.• Screw mounting stop (Fig. 3-5/6) into theeyepiece (Fig. 3-5/3).Make sure that the side of the reticle (Fig. 3-5/5)with the line pattern on it is facing the mountingstop in the tube (Fig. 3-5/6) (the line pattern occursmirror-inverted from the observer’s point of viewbefore the insertion).
