C-4 APPENDIX C: MONITOR UTILITYUsing a nonconductive object such as a plastic stylus, press the hardwareinterrupt switch. The hardware interrupt switch is located on the server’s leftside (viewed from the front of the server) close to the front, as shown inFigure 1-1 on page 1-3. The switch is recessed behind a small round hole toprotect it from being pressed unintentionally.WARNING: Use only a nonconductive object such as a plastic stylus to pressthe hardware interrupt switch. Do not use the tip of a pencil. Graphiteparticles can cause electrical shock to the operator and can damagecomponents on the server’s circuit boards.The following message appears:3Com Corporation CS/3000 Series Monitor>If the server is nonfunctional, enter the following command:kEntering this command performs a soft reset, which resets the monitor’sstack and internal variables and the Ethernet and serial controllers. At thispoint, 3Com or your network supplier may ask you to perform a memorydump. For information on memory dumps, refer to “Memory DumpProcedures”.Using the MONitorCommandIf you have Network Manager privilege, you can access the monitor byentering the MONitor software command from the local console. To resumenormal software operation, enter go at the monitor prompt (>). If you haveused monitor commands that interact with memory, such as co or du, donot use go. Instead reset the communications server by using the rscommand or the front-panel reset switch.Using Commands While in monitor mode you can boot or reset the server and performdiagnostic tasks and other functions by entering commands.You must be in monitor mode to use these commands.
